1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Etymology ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Etymology is a word-of-the-day application that provides daily vocabulary words with etymology deep-dives, including root words, language chains, historical timelines, and related information. The App offers both free and premium features.

3. Subscriptions and Billing

3.1 Free Features

The following features are available at no cost:

  • Daily word of the day with full etymology deep-dive
  • Pronunciation playback
  • Word history (last 7 days)
  • Word card sharing

3.2 Premium Subscription

Premium features — including all difficulty tiers, favorites, collections, full word archive, quizzes, stats dashboard, and all widget sizes — require an active subscription.

3.3 Pricing

  • Monthly: $2.99 USD per month
  • Yearly: $19.99 USD per year
  • Free Trial: 1-week free trial available for new subscribers

Prices are in US dollars and may vary by region. Applicable taxes may apply.

3.4 Auto-Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the same price.

3.5 Managing Subscriptions

You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID Settings (Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will retain premium access until then.

3.6 Free Trial

If offered, any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

3.7 Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests must be submitted to Apple directly through their support channels at reportaproblem.apple.com.

4. Content and Intellectual Property

4.1 Our Content

All word definitions, etymology data, timelines, fun facts, and other content provided in the App are the intellectual property of Jayden Luna or used under appropriate license. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the App's content without written permission.

4.2 Word Cards

You may share word cards generated by the App for personal, non-commercial use. Shared cards must retain the Etymology branding.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App's systems
  • Redistribute the App's content database
  • Use the App's content for commercial purposes without permission

6. Disclaimers

6.1 Content Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy in our etymology data, linguistic history is complex and sometimes contested. The App's content is for educational and entertainment purposes and should not be cited as an authoritative academic source.

6.2 No Warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the App.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Jayden Luna shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App, including but not limited to loss of data or service interruptions.

8. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
